Something happens.
Your kid lies. Your partner says something that doesn’t make sense. Someone’s tone changes. You get a text and your stomach drops. You walk into a room and know something is off.
Your body noticed.
Probably before you had words for it.
And then a whole bunch of other things happened. You made meaning of it. Your nervous system responded. You explained something away. Got louder. Got quieter. Asked a question. Didn’t ask the question. Decided you were overreacting. Decided they were an asshole. Started trying to fix it.
We spend a lot of time working on that last part.
How do I stop doing this? How do I get my kid to stop doing this? How do I regulate myself? What boundary do I need? What do I say? What should I do differently?
Embodied Family Wisdom backs us up.
The body is brilliant. It is constantly taking in information and doing something with it. Instead of immediately trying to change the response, we get curious about why it was there in the first place.
What did you notice?
What did your body do with it?
What happened next?
That’s a very different place to start.
